Our greatest need is weekdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern: that is 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Central in most of Kansas, and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mountain in Sherman, Wallace, Greeley and Hamilton counties. Evening and weekend tutors are welcome too: tell us when you can teach.

Online teaching jobs: one student, one session

Each session is you and one student, live on Zoom, usually for 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour. You decide which students you want to work with. You choose and adapt materials for each student, because every child differs. After each session you write session notes, and SpecialEdResource provides AI summary tools that make note-writing mostly copy and paste.

In our tutors’ own words

Samantha, smiling

I enjoy working one-on-one with students and helping them build both academic skills and confidence. Each session is a little different, and I use interactive activities, games, rewards, and individualized strategies to keep students engaged and make learning feel fun. I also appreciate the support and flexibility I receive, which allows me to focus on meeting each student where they are.

Working for SER as a tutor is incredibly rewarding because I get to support children and adults who are truly eager to grow their skills. The one-on-one environment is exceptional, allowing each learner to work at their own pace on targeted, individualized goals. I genuinely love being part of a process that empowers students to thrive on their own unique learning journeys.

Questions and answers

Can I apply if I live in Kansas?

Yes. Kansas is one of the 15 states where SpecialEdResource can currently employ tutors, and the job is 100% remote. The state that counts is the one you live in, not the one that issued your license. Every Apply button on this site leads to SpecialEdResource’s hiring site, hiring.specialedresource.com. The requirements are on the job page.

What license and certification do I need to apply?

The requirement is special education certification and a current teaching license, both from any US state. If your license has expired or is inactive, you can still apply, as long as you’ll renew it before you start.

I retired from teaching in Kansas. Where can I read KPERS’s rules?

KPERS, the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System, has its own rules for retirees who go back to work, which it calls Working After Retirement. Our page for retired teachers sets them out and quotes KPERS directly, and our guide to KPERS working after retirement goes into more detail. Confirm your own situation with KPERS (1-888-275-5737) before you start.

When are sessions?
